Chalon Portrait Stamps
- Other Countries
The Chalon portrait was much used as a basis for stamp design early in the Queen's reign. The New Zealand stamp used more of the portrait than other designs, most of which concentrated on the head.
Other places using the portrait include:
Queensland Tasmania Prince Edward Island Canada Nova Scotia New Brunswick Natal Bahamas
The portrait was used mirror image on a double head in the 1897 Canada Jubilee issue, but added more of a smile than was ever on the original. An amused Queen Victoria?
Here it is mirror image for comparison:
Australia has reproduced an 1860 Queensland stamp in a 1984 miniature sheet (Ausipex 84)

For the centenary of
postage stamps in Queensland in 1960, Australia reused the design. |
