Worked at Levels Station S.I.  Porters Pass reputedly named after.
Lost right arm in accident at Ravenswood flax mill in 1875. Afterwards a carrier and coach operator between 
Rangiora and Christchurch.
By 1985 had approximately 450 descendants.
